New Beginnings

Mission Statement

To assist female inmates in achieving personal, social and economic self-sufficiency.

Who We Are

New Beginnings is a pilot program under New Choices Career and Development Program. The program is funded in part under a contract with the Lancaster County Office of Behavior Health and Development Services. We offer five ten-day, sixty-hour courses. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible for scholarship opportunities to continue their education.

Who We Serve

Female inmates who are within 30-90 days of release, transitioning back into the Lancaster Community

What We Do

The program is designed to benefit women in transition by giving them the skills and resources to succeed upon release from prison. Students are trained in job seeking, interview and resume skills. They learn the value of self-esteem effective communication styles and stress management. They are introduced to a variety of community resources, which may help with housing, legal, and medical issues. Upon successful completion of the course, students may be eligible to receive scholarship funds to pursue short-term education. They also received the continuous for support and guidance from the dedicated new choices staff for a minimum of six months upon release.
